German car giant BMW has unveiled a 'green' bicycle for the London 2012 Olympic games.
The car company has secured an exclusive deal, worth an estimated 150million pounds to provide transport for Olympic VIPs during the sporting extravaganza.

A total of 400 BMW bicycles will be used by Olympic organizers in the run-up to and during the Games, and will be part of a fleet of up to 4,000 low and zero polluting BMW and MINI vehicles, including electric and hybrid powered cars supplied by BMW Group.

Global Sales and Marketing Director for BMW Group, Ian Robertson, handed the first 'Bimmer' bicycle to David Stubbs, head of sustainability for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) in central London.

"Everybody will be travelling to the Games by foot, bicycle or public transport where ever possible, and the LOCOG team will be no exception to this," the Daily Mail quoted Stubbs, as saying.

Robertson explained that the majority of their 'green' car fleet cars will feature the company's 'efficient dynamics' technology, which squeezes lots of incremental improvements in fuel efficiency and anti-pollution.The majority of the fleet will be made up of highly efficient diesel-powered cars. This has allowed us to meet LOCOG's extremely challenging target of 120g/km of CO2, as an average across the fleet," the paper quoted Robertson, as saying.

"We will supply almost 4,000 vehicles, in addition to the 400 bicycles, from diesels to electric cars, hybrids to motorcycles, as well as innovative new products like the Pedelec," he added.
