Blood Pressure can be Controlled by Consuming Milk Protein Supplements
Instead of opting for refined carbohydrate supplements, a new study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association suggests that milk and soy are more effective in controlling the blood pressure.
The study, led by Dr. Jiang He, from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, included over 350 adults suffering from high blood pressure. The participants were given either refined complex carbohydrate supplements, 40 grams of powdered soy or milk for up to eight weeks.

The researchers monitored the blood pressure of each participant at regular intervals while their calorie intake and sodium consumption were also found to be similar during the study period. At the end of eight weeks, the researchers found that while there were no significant drops in diastolic blood pressure, there were marked differences between the three groups related to drop in systolic pressures.

Those who took milk protein supplements saw a 2.3 mm Hg drop in systolic pressure compared to those who took carbohydrate supplements while the soy group also registered 2 mm Hg lower than the carbohydrate group.
