A new study has said that "text-messaging" is wrecking the English language and has brought spelling standards to a new low.

The research said that spell checkers also make people lazy about everyday words, reports the Sun.

However, they are more careful when writing formal letters, such as job applications, said the internet search site survey.

The most misspelled common words were: 1) accommodation; 2) accessory; 3) February; 4) opportunity; 5) embarrass; 6) eighth; 7) receipt; 8) guarantee; 9) license (confused with licence); 10) restaurant.
