Biotronik's New Pacemakers Safe for 3T MRI Scans Get Approval in Europe

by Vishnuprasad on Jul 31 2015 4:20 PM

Biotronik
Biotronik, a leading provider of ProMRI cardiac devices, has received European CE mark of approval for two of its pacemakers.
The company announced that the pacemakers are safe for use with patients going through 3 Tesla MRI scans, as long as exclusion zones are taken into consideration.

The approval makes Biotronik the only firm on the market with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) and pacemakers available to physicians.

The company believes that 3T compatibility is significant because these scanners will be overtaking 1.5 T machines as far as availability in hospitals.

“The benefits of 3 T MRI scanners are clear. 3 T scanners offer superior image quality, as well as a shorter scan time compared to a 1.5 T machine. Patients with ProMRI devices enabling 3 T scans benefit from a shorter time spent in the sometimes uncomfortable MRI machine, while doctors benefit from clearer images to diagnose conditions. Reduced scan times can improve clinical workflow, granting more patients access to this vital diagnostic tool,” commented Dr. Maurizio Lunati, Niguarda Hospital, Milan, Italy.
