After floods, Bihar is battling waterborne diseases like diarrhoea. Hasanpur village in Bihar’s Darbhanga District has lost five children and one woman to the disease.
Medical authorities admitted receiving 20 patients daily from the area alone, mostly children."All the patients are from Darbhanga only as other villages are not connected properly to the district and the figures (about 20 patients daily) are from here only," Suman Kumari, a nurse at the paediatric department of Darbhanga Medical College Hospital said.
Harried parents of the children seen lined up in the hospital corridor complained apathy of the officials towards the spread of the disease.
"My child has diarrhoea and he has been given six bottles of glucose. He has been vomiting. Doctor asked me to bring medicines from outside," said Mohammad Rashid, father of a patient.
About 2.5 million people have been displaced or stranded in floods over the past fortnight in 20 districts in Bihar.
Darbhanga and Motihari are the worst affected districts.

Floods have damaged standing crops worth rupees 2.68 billion, houses worth rupees 1.05 billion and public property worth 430 million.
