by Savitha C Muppala on Aug 4 2008 4:46 PM

The state government in Patna is all set to roll out a family welfare initiative that will seek to create widespread awareness about birth control measures, with the belief  that the success of any welfare scheme, hinges on population control.

Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar has sought the assistance of the HRD department to enhance coverage of this initiative, and has directed the health department to draw out a clear plan of action for this campaign.

Reiterating that finance will not be a stumbling block for the success of the campaign, Nitish advised officials to solicit the consensus of organizations, NGO’s and healthcare agencies.

"If the existing rate of population increase is not checked, our efforts on all fronts will go waste and no scheme will remain viable," said Nitish.

Three new health schemes have been announced by the State Health Society. They are termed as the Samadhan, Breast feeding scheme and Mamta.

Samadhan is a hotline enabling assistance to patients and their families to register complaints. The service also provides direction to patients and their families, focusing on enabling help speedily.

Mamta, sponsored by Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) will provide occupation to women of the Ravidas community, mainly involved in assistance during childbirth.
