The Indian state government will make treatment of all types of cancer, cardiac problems and blood disorders completely free in government hospitals.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that treatment of all types of cardiac problems, cancer and blood disorders would be completely free in state-run hospitals.
"After our huge success of fair price medicine shops and diagnostic centers, the state government would soon make treatment of all types of cancer, cardiac problems and blood disorders completely free in state government-run hospitals and medical colleges," Banerjee wrote on her Facebook page.

Banerjee said the services to be provided free of cost would include all types of medicines, radiation therapy, surgical procedures like open heart surgery, bypass surgery, repair and replacement of valves and insertion of different types of implants like stents and pace makers.

"The scope of treatment of blood disorders including blood cancer, thalassemia, aplastic anaemia, hemophilia, etc would also be enhanced to offer universal coverage," she said.

The chief minister said that the government was working on the logistics and other issues, and the initiative would be launched soon.
