Baby Missing Back of the Skull Survives in Utah
As Reidhead family in Utah were preparing for the birth of their child, they received a shocking news that their baby may die in a couple of minutes after delivery.
At 23 weeks of her pregnancy, Alyssa was informed that her baby was suffering from a rare disorder called as encephalocele. It is a condition in which the neural tube that forms the brain and spinal cord fail to close properly.

Due to this, the baby’s skull lacked a closing and the brain was growing outside of the skull. With a strong heart, Alyssa and her husband mentally prepared for their child’s funeral instead of a baby shower.

Doctors had told them that the baby can only be delivered through C- section as normal delivery may lead to the death of the child during labor.

Alyssa’s delivery was full of fear, but to their surprise, they heard a loud cry during the C-section at the Primary Children’s Hospital. Their joy knew no bounds on hearing the baby’s voice.

Despite complications, the baby defied the odds and was breathing just like all other newborns. They named him Will and now the baby has been diagnosed with another disorder called as Aplasia Cutis Congenita, where the baby’s brain is only covered by a thin layer of membrane.

Though, doctors are still not able to figure out the next step; Reidhead family is enjoying each and every moment with their miracle baby.
