Baby Heart Deaths at John Radcliffe Hospital Causes Widespread Grief
Four deaths in the pediatric cardiac wing at the John Radcliffe Hospital in recent weeks have caused the department to suspend cardiac surgery.
The first death was that of Natalie Lo in December 2009 just 24 days after she was born. Following Natalie’s death three other children died after undergoing heart surgery carried out by surgeon Caner Salih.

Elaine Strachan-Hall, Director of Nursing and Clinical Leadership at John Radcliffe Hospital had said in March that the death involved very sick children.

But Aida Lo, Natalie’s mum, says this is not so as doctors said her daughter was very strong. "The doctor said 'don't worry she's strong, it's a small risk',” she said. "They gave me so much hope, of course I believed them - they're doctors.”

An independent review into the deaths is expected to release its report today.
