Award for Medical Service

Dr Mansoor Hasan, the man responsible for the Lari Cardiology Centre in Lucknow, has been awarded the Padma Shri this year for his contribution in the field of medicine.

As a young doctor in the 1970s, he watched people who had travelled long distances, outside the cardiology department of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. He felt the need of making medical treatment more accessible, and so when he went back to his home town, Lucknow, he started working on setting up a centre for heart patients. The Lari Cardiology Centre has become a well-equipped and an accessible place for heart patients from all over Uttar Pradesh.
