Avoid Firecrackers to Help Asthmatic Children
A public service initiative conducted by Cipla has urged people across the country to desist from bursting firecrackers since poisonous gases from the crackers are harmful to children suffering from asthma.
According to a new study carried out by Chest Research Foundation, bursting of firecrackers increase the sulphur dioxide levels more than 200 times the safety limits recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Every year around Diwali, there are about 10-15 asthma patients in my clinic who require emergency treatment due to aggravation of symptoms. Some even require hospitalisation. From Diwali till the end of February there are about 30-40 per cent more cases of asthma in the clinic. It only makes sense for all to restrict if not completely avoid firecrackers and show concern for others,” Dr Vijay Warad, Paediatric Pulmonologist, Sai Multispecialty Hospital and Consultant, Sahyadri hospital said.

Asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), IPF, bronchitis and other respiratory ailments worsen with use of firecrackers. So this Diwali, consumers can shun firecrackers and help kids with asthma.
