Australia's First Eco-Friendly Coffee Pods to Reduce Environmental Disaster

EcoCaffe Company has launched Australia's first biodegradable coffee pod to break down, as a plastic coffee pod takes up to 500 years plus to get degraded whereas an aluminum pod takes 150-200 years.

Managing director of ecoCaffe Michael Scott said, "The huge rise in consumption of coffee pods is impacting Australian landfill in a big way. When there's an alternative capsule that biodegrades in just 180 days and the coffee is as good as any other on the market, it makes no sense to have to accept the volume of waste."

New Technique Makes Biodegradable Plastic Cheaper and Greener
The bioplastic known as polylactic acid (PLA), which is not yet a full alternative for petroleum-based plastics, is derived from renewable resources.

The pods, which are compatible with most Nespresso machines, are made from vegetable fibre and starch, and can be thrown in household trash or green waste without question and are being distributed since November of last year.
