Aussie Mum Dies After Successful Kidney Donation to Daughter

Penny Halbish, who donated her kidney to her sick daughter, has died one day after the surgery due to a heart attack caused by a blood clot. Mrs Halbish, 62, was wife of the former head of the Australian Cricket Board, Graham Halbish.

Mrs Halbish's son Phil revealed that his mother was aware of the risks of the donation, but chose to go ahead with it.

"We were all anxious and apprehensive and it was such good news when she got through, then for it to happen - it is hard to believe," he told the Herald Sun. "Mum gave Suzanne a fantastic kidney and she is recovering better than scheduled. She is shattered her mum is gone."

The daughter Suzanne is recovering from the kidney transplant and was shattered to learn of her mum's death. The 29-year-old posted a tribute to her mother saying, "Mamma, the most loving, caring, selfless mother ever. I will miss you forever. I am so proud to be your daughter."

The notice appeared in the Herald Sun newspaper.
