Assam to Focus on Rural Health Care

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi gave away certificates and appointment letters to the successful participants in the first batch of the state sponsored diploma course in Medicine and Rural Health Care here on Monday.

Gogoi distributed certificates to 92 students who have successfully completed their programme at the regional Medical Institute in Jorhat.

The qualified medi-care practitioners will be deployed at various places by the Health Department of Assam after undergoing basic internship at various health care centres in the state.

On completion of their internship, they will be appointed in rural areas, which are not included in a municipal corporation, a municipal board or a town committee, or any other area notified as urban area.

A newly appointed practitioner said that he would help the poor by providing them with better proper medical attention.

"I will work hard in helping the poor people, those residing in the interior parts of the state as they are not getting proper medical attention and facilities. I am very happy for this opportunity," said Aamir Hussain, a newly appointed practitioner.

Another practitioner mentioned that she would work hard to improve the overall health in the rural scenario of the state.

"I will try my best to fulfil the dream of our honourable Chief Minister, Health Minister and everybody. I will also try to improve the health scenario of Assam," said Neetashi Devi. The government of Assam introduced this three and half years diploma programme in 2005 in an attempt to develop heath infrastructure in rural areas of the state.
