Anna Hazare’s Health Chit, Fit to Fast in Mumbai

Dr. Devlat Pote, Anna Hazare's physician informed on the veteran social activist fitness to begin his three-day fast from Tuesday in Mumbai.

Dr. Pote, who examined Hazare at the latter's native village Ralegan Siddhi, said the veteran social activist's health had improved and is better compared to last couple of days.

"The good news is that Annaji's health has improved during the night and is better compared to last couple of days. His fever has come down and his blood pressure and pulse are also normal. I have given him a medicine, he just had his breakfast and I have prescribed his medicine for the next few days," said Dr. Pote.

"He (Anna) is just feeling a bit weak now as he is supposed to leave for Mumbai in the evening. He needs to be resting now and he will be resting in Mumbai after reaching because from tomorrow his routine programme will start and he can conduct his fast," he added.

Dr. Devlat Pote further informed that he would accompany Hazare to Mumbai and would stay by his side for three days.

Meanwhile, Anna Hazare's supporters in Mumbai appeared all charged up for the three-day fast from Tuesday to mount pressure on the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre to pass an effective Lokpal Bill that would help to combat the rampant corruption in the country.

"The website created to register people for the court arrest agitation witnessed 80,000 registrations in over two days. This shows the level of support for Anna Hazare. Some people want to divert the attention of the public by making provocative statements. But we want to talk about the ombudsman bill and I think the government should concentrate on that main topic," said Suresh Acharya, a Hazare supporter.

Others stressed that the Lokpal Bill tabled by the government in Parliament was a disappointment compared to the anti-graft bill demanded by Hazare.

"Tomorrow after the fast begins, we expect large crowds to gather here. I have been coming here for the past two days, showing my support to Anna Hazare. I have been coming here and watching the stage being set up, which I think will be completed by today evening," said Raju Ambekar, another Hazare supporter.

"My personal view is that the government didn't present the bill demanded by Anna Hazare and I think Hazare is 100 percent correct," he added.

Team Anna and the government have locked horns over the Lokpal Bill issue, with the former stating that the bill's latest version is 'weak', while the latter says that it has gone out of its way to incorporate the views of all sections of society.

Anna Hazare, who is spearheading the movement for a strong Lokpal, will begin his three-day fast in Mumbai from December 27 to pressurise the government to accept their demands including bringing the CBI under the ambit of the anti-corruption ombudsman.
