One of the leading anesthetists in the state, Dr Murali Chakravarthy urged doctors to take extreme care when giving anesthesia to patients

He was speaking at the launch of a new book, Protocols in Anesthesia, which attempts to provide doctors with a list of protocols to be followed in order to minimize errors during a surgery.
“Anesthesia has been something of an enigma, be it to the patients or doctors. Sometimes, a person who is fit for surgery cannot be operated upon because he or she is unfit for anesthesia. Moreover, the sleep induced by anesthesia is much more similar to a drug induced reversible coma rather than sleep. For all these reasons, administration of anesthesia needs to be handled with extreme care”, he said.
