Allergic Reaction to Folic Acid Tablets Distributed in School
A swine flu prevention camp conducted in a government school, Warangal district of southern Telangana state dosed folic acid tablets to students and over 200 of them fell sick.
Around 700 students of different age groups took the tablets at their school camp on Monday. They were also given homeopathic medicines under the ongoing anti-swine flu drive, undertaken by the Telangana government.

"After lunch many students complained of nausea, stomach ache and started writhing in pain. Two hundred of them both girls and boys were shifted to MGM Hospital in Warangal," a school teacher accompanying the students said.

Warangal Collector V.Karuna said, "As part of a health programme, folic acid tablets were given to children in a district school. After that some allergic reaction happened to the children. They were admitted to the hospital. Some of the sick children have already been discharged. Doctors are attending the sick children and some more will be discharged soon. There is absolutely no issue," she said.

The doctors said that iron tablets could cause stomach irritation and the midday meal laced with spicy curry might have resulted in pain.
