'Alcolock' in UK Coaches

UK authorities are installing a device called alcolock in train coaches in order to prevent fatal train accidents caused due to drunk driving.

The device is designed to turn off the engine in case any trace of alcohol is detected by the breathalyzer in the driver's breathe. It subsequently informs a control centre, reports the Daily Express.

Any driver who tests positive is hauled before a disciplinary hearing and if shown to have been drinking is fired from his services.

British transport group, National Express has rolled out this tough policy and so far, 480 coaches have been "alcolocked".

The move follows a National Express coach accident in 2008 in which 36 passengers were injured and the driver, who was found drunk was jailed for 10 months.
