Ahmedabad Witnesses a Rise In The Number Of Dengue And Swine Flu Cases
Ahmedabad has registered 41 new cases of dengue in just seven days of September, while swine flu cases have gone up to 15. This is the only year when both dengue and swine flu, since their outbreak, have started giving sleepless nights to health authorities. //
The state health department has already instructed all state district education officers (DEO) to instruct schools to isolate children with symptoms of mild flu, cold and mild fever. Either such children should be immediately provided care and sent home or to the nearest health facility. Ahmedabad has already registered a whopping H1N1 2,171 cases since January this year and 129 deaths have been reported. Swine flu onslaught might become acute with a little dip in temperature, fear health officials.

The state health authorities on September 7 asked the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to intensify the vector preventive measures against dengue mosquitoes, despite being aware that 330 contract workers for this work have struck work. Since January this year, the city has registered 643 dengue cases.

"In case of dengue, if an early winter does not set in, it may prove detrimental and help in the rapid spread of disease, while in case of swine flu any further dip in temperature or a fresh spell of rain will kick off another round of the dreaded disease. It is important that families remain vigilant and consult a doctor when preliminary symptoms show up," says a senior health official.
