Aggressive Sales Technique for Cosmetic Procedures Facing Government Ire in Britain
The cosmetic surgery industry in Britain is facing an aggressive clampdown by the government which is currently considering proposals that could see a ban on discounted deals as well as the aggressive sales techniques that are promoted for cosmetic surgeries.
The clampdown comes following the PIP breast implant scandal early this year. Former health secretary Andrew Lansley had ordered a review into the practices adopted by the cosmetic industry in the country and involved more than 180 submissions from doctors, patient groups and industry representatives to the NHS medical director, Sir Bruce Keogh.

The review found that many people supported ban on free consultations for cosmetic surgeries as well as discounted deals, including two-for-one procedures. A two stage consent process is also likely to be adopted as it will provide potential patients with time to decide whether they really want to undergo the surgery.

“Aggressive marketing techniques are often used to maximize profit. This may be the right approach for selling double glazing but not for people having or considering whether to have surgery. Everyone who decides to have cosmetic surgery should have time to think about the risks. Time limited deals and offers on voucher websites pressure people to make snap decisions”, Vivienne Parry, who was part of the review committee, said.
