The Malaysian state of Sarawak, a largely Muslim-populated island of Borneo, has now declared yoga as "haram" ie forbidden by religious law.
Muslims in the state have been banned from practicing yoga in line with the edict issued by the National Fatwa Council on yoga exercises, last month.
The New Strait Times quoted Assistant Minister (Islamic Affairs) in the Chief Minister's Office Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman as saying that the decision on the fatwa was made by the state Fatwa Council which met last week.
He, however, said no legal action would be taken against those who continued to do yoga.
"However, they are advised to do other forms of physical activity to keep fit and healthy."
