Use of Animals Not Needed in Medical Training, Says PETA

A number of leading medical institutions in New Delhi have been approached by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) requesting them to put an end to the practice of using animals in medical training.

PETA has suggested that instead of killing innocent animals, the hospitals could use modern methods including computer simulations which are being used by a number of leading institutions across the globe.

The five colleges that PETA sent letters to are All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Maulana Azad Medical College, Lady Hardinge Medical College, University College of Medical Sciences and Vardhman Mahavir Medical College.

“This is a major step forward in medical education. The colleges now have the opportunity not only to spare animals' lives but to provide students with the most modern training methods available”, PETA India campaigner Anuradha Srivastava said.
