Transgenic Chicken Developed in India

A transgenic chicken variety that is fleshier than normal breeds has been developed in India. It is claimed that this breed can help fight diseases as well.

Scientists said the transgenic chicken marks the first successful genetically modified poultry or livestock, according to a report in Truth About Trade.

the breed has been developed by a team of 3 scientists at the Hyderabad-based Project Directorate on Poultry.

"It is ready for commercial use," T.K. Bhattacharya, the senior scientist who headed the project, told Dow Jones Newswires. "These chickens can enhance productivity and give a huge quantity of flesh."
