Thousands Suffer from Preventable Cancer

by Rajshri on May 13 2008 4:12 PM

Prof Martin Wiseman, medical and scientific adviser for the World Cancer Research Fund has suggested that thousands of people are diagnosed every year with cancer that can be prevented.

Professor Martin Wiseman said that the number of preventable cancer cases may be compared to a full Wembley Stadium. "When health charities talk about numbers of cases, it can often be difficult to really comprehend what that means. But we hope that by comparing it to something that is easier to imagine like the capacity of Wembley, we will be able show the scale of the problem that we face," he added.

The number one preventable cause of cancer is smoking, but certain other lifestyles are also indicted in causing tumors.

The charity said that avoiding smoking, alcohol, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and being as lean as possible were some of the measures that could prevent cancer.
