Belgrade, March 29 (DPA) A Serbian patient has survived more than a decade between two operations with gauze in his body, the Belgrade daily Blic reported Thursday.
The gauze was forgotten in the patient's body after surgery 11 years ago, a spokesman of the Sremska Kamenica cardiovascular institute, 70 km west of Belgrade, was quoted as saying.It was found during surgery in mid-March. The latter operation was performed to treat new cardiovascular problems and was unrelated to the gauze, the spokesman said.
The patient suffered no subjective difficulties, though in some cases gauze or instruments forgotten in the body after surgery may be fatal.
