Smartphone App Promises to be a Boon to Burn Victims
An ex-soldier with a desire to make a valuable contribution to victims of burns, especially after his experience in combat zones, has come out with a new smartphone application that can be a shot in the arm for their treatment.
Chris Seaton from the United Kingdom, is the brain behind the iPhone and iPad application, called as “Mercey Burns”.

This application has great potential in saving lives by calculating the precise amount of fluids required by patients, which is crucial for their survival. Survival of a victim of burns depends mostly on the amount of fluid intake and there can be no error in the quantity of fluids to be given, which is usually calculated by the doctor. Such a method also takes time as well as leaves room for errors.

This application developed by Chris permits precise calculations to be made, thus reducing the possibility of errors.

The user just needs to color the patient's burnt area on a computer model of a torso on their touch-screen phone and key in the age and weight of the victim. The application quickly calculates the exact amount of fluid required by the patient.

This application is a huge blessing as it can be used anywhere. In combat zones, it is especially helpful as burn victims can be treated with fluids even by their comrades before medical help arrives.
