Robert De Niro Wins Against Insurance Company

by Hannah Punitha on Mar 13 2008 8:02 PM

American actor Robert De Niro won a lawsuit filed against him by Fireman's Fund Insurance Co., for withholding information that he had prostate cancer.

The actor was granted a request by a Los Angeles judge on Tuesday March 11 to revoke the lawsuit against him by the insurance company, which had claimed that he had not informed them that he was suffering from prostate cancer before signing the papers.

The insurance had been taken out during the production of 2003's ‘Hide and Seek’ and Fireman's Fund sued the Raging Bull star in October 2006, saying that he wrongfully checked off a box indicating he had 'never been diagnosed with or treated for' various conditions, including a diseased prostate, when he filled out his medical certificate.

The company filed the complaint that it had to pay 1.8 million dollars to cover the cost of production delays incurred when De Niro had to take time out for treatment.

In defence of his case, De Niro stated that he had undergone a biopsy three days before he took out the insurance and had received his diagnosis only two days after he completed the insurance documentation.

'This ruling vindicates what we've said all along: Mr. De Niro answered Fireman's Fund's questions truthfully and we are pleased that the Court has found that Fireman's Fund can't sue Mr. De Niro for getting cancer,' E!Online quoted attorney Robyn C. Crowther as having said in a statement.
