In a shocking incident, seven newborn babies have died allegedly due to faulty incubators at Old Government Hospital in Vijayawada city. The Andhra Pradesh government has ordered a probe into the incident, which took place on Sunday.

"We have deputed a team of doctors to probe the incident. If it is proved that the death was caused by the negligence by the hospital staff we will take action," Health Minister D. Nagender revealed.

It is being reported that initially the hospital denied being responsible for the death of the babies, saying they died of various ailments. However after parents staged a protest, hospital superintendent H B Lal assured them that the case would be looked into.

The parents say the hospital has 11 incubators, but only 4 are functional. All babies who died were between 2-3 days old.
