 Overall Gains of Having Pets
Pet owners are a lucky lot, just as a recent study has revealed.

Contrary to what was thought earlier about pet owners and their rather reticent behavior,  a recent insight has revealed the immense emotional gains for pet owners from sharing space with domestic animals.
Owners of pets develop their social skills, and are able to communicate better. Pets do wonders to their owners’ confidence and self-esteem as well. They are also known to have a calming effect and are great stress busters.

"We observed evidence that pet owners fared better, both in terms of well-being outcomes and individual differences, than non-owners on several dimensions. Specifically, pet owners had greater self-esteem, were more physically fit, tended to be less lonely, were more conscientious, and were more extraverted, tended to be less fearful and tended to be less preoccupied than non-owners."
