One Among the Tiniest Infants in the World to Survive
Melinda Star Guido, so tiny yet so famous has become quite a star as she is come to be known as one of the smallest babies to be born in the world  weighing 91/2 ounces.
She was born prematurely at 24 weeks delivered by a cesarean section in late August to a 22-year-old mother and was in an incubator in the neonatal intensive care unit in Los Angeles ever since.

Hypertension in the mother had hampered the nourishment to the developing fetus and had led to premature birth.

"It takes a lot of good care and a lot of good luck. Most of them don't survive," said pediatrician Dr. Edward Bell of the University of Iowa.
