Officials Reject Tofu Lover’s License Plate For Being Too Raunchy

by VR Sreeraman on Apr 11 2009 3:40 PM

Authorities in Colorado have disallowed a Denver woman to express her love for tofu through her 4WD's number plate.

Kelly Coffman-Lee, 38, wanted to tell the world about her fondness for bean curd through a number plate reading 'ILVTOFU'.

However, the Division of Motor Vehicles blocked her plan suggesting that the combination of letters could be interpreted as profane.

"We don't allow 'FU' because some people could read that as street language for sex," the Courier Mail quoted Mark Couch, a spokesman for the Department of Revenue, as saying.

Officials hold periodical meetings to make sure that State plates stay free of letters that abbreviate gang slang, drug terms or obscene phrases.

Coffman-Lee insists, who says that tofu is a staple of her vegan family's diet, insists that the DMV misinterpreted her message.
