A report titled Safer Water for Better Health is the first-ever report released by the WHO that provides country-by-country estimates of the burden of disease due to poor water, sanitation and hygiene.
The report highlights how much disease could be prevented through increased access to safe water and better hygiene. This comprehensive overview demonstrates the financial returns on investments in fully integrating water, sanitation and hygiene as part of countries' disease reduction strategies -- a pre-requisite to achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
The report also provides basis for consideration in the decision making process by the health sector and those sectors managing critical water resources and services.
Lack of safe water, sanitation and hygiene remains some of the world's most urgent health issues.
