New Liver Damage Testing Kit for Alcoholics

People who consume alcohol regularly and are worried about their health can now easily test the condition of their liver without going to a hospital.

Medical experts in Britain have created a liver damage testing kit, which gives users an idea of whether they are drinking too much.

The kit created by scientists from University College Hospital in London costs 99 pounds ($204), and buyers will receive the kit with instructions on taking a blood sample at home to be posted to the laboratory.

The results come within 15 days and show drinking danger levels on a colour coded scale. Those whose levels are shown as dark amber or red will be warned to drastically cut back on their drinking or stop entirely, reported the online edition of the Daily Mail.

The LiverCheck test measures levels of two enzymes in the blood produced when alcohol damages liver cells.

The kit, which will be available online and by telephone, could avoid people getting to the stage where they are doing themselves real harm.
