An American woman claims that she has a photograph to prove that an angel has save the life of her severely ill teenage daughter.

Colleen Banton of Mint Hill, North Carolina, revealed that her daughter Chelsea had been suffering from an advanced case of pneumonia.

She revealed that the pneumonia had spread from the girl's left lung to her right lung.

She said that her daughter also had sepsis and blood clots, staph infections, E.coli, a collapsed lung and feeding problems.

Colleen recalled that the doctors treating Chelsea were unsure whether the girl could be taken off of the ventilator.

"We had been praying every day, my oldest daughter and I and Chelsea. Praying for a miracle," the Daily Telegraph quoted her as saying.

Colleen revealed that Chelsea finally came off the ventilator on November 1, and seemed to do well at first.

However, she added, the girl's health started to falter the very next day, and she began having anxiety attacks with the oxygen mask over her face.

The mother said that she struggled with the decision over whether to remove her daughter's oxygen mask.

"I wanted to do what the Lord wanted me to do. And I really felt like I had her for 14 years, and if it's time for her to go to heaven, then I know she'll be healed," she said.

Colleen said that all family members and friends went to visit Chelsea for what they thought might be the last time on November 5.

However, a nurse practitioner drew her attention to a nearby monitor displaying the door to the paediatric intensive care unit.

"On the monitor, there was this bright light. And I looked at it, and said, 'Oh, my goodness! It looks like an angel!" Colleen said.

She revealed that she immediately captured the image in her camera.

Chelsea, who turned 15 on Christmas Day, went home from the hospital three days later.

Her family believes that it was due to a miracle that she could survive.
