Minorities Buy More Bottled Water as They Believe It is Safer Than Tap Water
A new survey published in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine has found that minority parents buy more bottled water compared to other since they believe that it is safer than tap water.
The study, led by Dr Marc Gorelick, polled more than 630 parents who visited the emergency department in Milwaukee. The researchers found that Hispanic and black parents were three times more likely to buy bottled water with poor families spending a major chunk of their income on bottled water.

However Dr Gorelick said that such a move could prove to be detrimental to the parents since bottled water contain just purified water without any nutrients while tap water contain a number of minerals that are beneficial to the body.

“Most bottled water is just purified tap water -- there really aren't any more nutrients in it. There is no real advantage to bottled water, but there might be some disadvantages”, Dr Gorelick said.
