Milk Intolerance is All in the Mind, Says Study
A new study presented at the Digestive Disease Week conference on Sunday suggested that majority of the people who claim that they are allergic to milk products are instead just fussy eaters.
The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Milan who found the intolerance exhibited towards lactose based milk products is just in the mind and they are healthy enough to eat such items. Instead the researchers said that they could be suffering from some form of problems such as stress, anxiety or depression.

The researchers conducted the study one more than 100 people who said that they were intolerant to lactose based products since it caused a number of problems including stomach ache, bloating and diarrhoea.

However when the researchers checked whether their digestive systems managed to break down the sugar and absorb it, they found that majority of the problems caused was due to their mental state rather than being allergic to lactose.

Lead researcher Dr Guido Basilico said that people who claim to be allergic to lactose are in danger of being deficient in calcium. “Excluding dairy products should be discouraged and doctors should pay more attention to the psychological problems of their patients”, Dr Basilico said.
