Lucknow's Ten-year-old Girl Creates History by Joining a College in Science Stream

Sushma Verma of Lucknow has created history by joining a college at the age of 10 years, in the science stream.
Authorities of CMS Degree College at Lucknow confirmed her admission to the university level institution on Wednesday.

At the age of seven, Sushma Verma was the youngest student to pass the matriculation of Uttar Pradesh in the year 2007.

Vinita Kamran, Principal of City Montessori School (CMS) Degree College, said she is very happy to have a budding scholar like her in the college and also that she is a challenge for the faculty of the college as well.

"This 10-year old child is very intelligent and very capable. This girl is not a problem for us but a challenge. We are very happy with her and she has come from St. Meera's Day School," said Vinita Kamran, Principal, CMS Degree College, Lucknow.

Jagdish Gandhi, Founder Correspondent of the college said the college has lent all encouragement to Sushma Verma by granting her scholarship.

"From our side her studies for three years will be completely free which includes B.Sc part one, two and three. Along with this 500 rupees will be given to her as scholarship so that she can take care of her stationery, books and laundry," said Jagdish Gandhi.

Sushma said the goal of her life has been to become a doctor and she wishes that this year she would get the permission to study subjects relevant to human physiology and medicine.

"I want to become doctor in future and for this, I appeared for Combined Pre Medical Test (CPMT) exam but my result was detained due to my age, I would like to say that since I have got the permission for B.Sc. I should also be granted the permission for this also because CPMT is a bachelor degree and B.Sc is also a bachelor degree," said Sushma.

"So, I would like to say that since my aim is to become doctor, I would like to study related subjects and B.Sc has this curriculum. So, I have taken admission here," she added.

As per University rules and guidelines, a student should be aged 17 years and above for pursuing a bachelor's degree course and join a college.
