Kashmir Paramedics Protests Demanding Regularisation of Services

by VR Sreeraman on Aug 21 2007 12:47 PM

Hundreds of paramedics staged a protest here, demanding regularisation of their services in Kashmir.

Some of the striking paramedics claimed that they have been working in the region for the past 18 to 20 years on an ad-hoc basis.

"We have appealed to the government several times to regularise our services, but to no avail. We are not demanding any financial assistance from them, or any other facility. We just want our services to be regularised,” said Shabir Ahmed Langoo, the President of the Medical Employees Federation.

Police had to resort to a baton charge to control the protesters, some of whom were arrested.
