J&J Recalls Popular Contact Lenses in Asia, Europe

Pharmaceutical giant Johnson and Johnson (J&J) announced on Monday the recall of 100,000 boxes of one of its popular contact lenses brands distributed in Asia and Europe.

J&J Vision Care said the voluntary recall affects "1 Day Acuvue TruEye" lenses manufactured in Ireland and distributed in several countries in Europe and Asia, including Japan.

It did not list the other countries.

The recall, however, does not affect the United States, the company said in a statement.

It initiated following complaints by customers in Japan who reported "unusual stinging or pain upon inserting" the lenses, it said.

An investigation revealed "an isolated issue in one portion of the lens rinsing process on a particular manufacturing line in a select number of lots."
