With a view to check environmental pollution, China is planning to ban the issue of free plastic bags from shops. “The new ban will prohibit free plastic issues by shops and the expected prohibition will be monitored constantly,” said Zhao Jiarong, deputy secretary-general of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
The earlier ban on ultra thin plastic bags enforced in China from 2008 helped cut its usage drastically by 600,000 tones.
With the impending ban on free plastic bags, China hopes to have a cleaner environment.
