by VR Sreeraman on Jun 24 2007 3:51 PM

An Indian Yoga expert has organized a three-day workshop on the ancient Indian science in Lahore.

Dr Rajesh Mishra, the founder director of Yoga Darshan, India, in his lecture on Yoga, Stress and Personality, organised by the Sukh Chan Wellness Club, said, yoga could help the people of Lahore keep healthy, besides establishing a harmonious and humane society.

“Yoga can help Lahoris keep healthy,” said Dr Mishra, who holds a Doctorate degree and Masters Degrees in Yoga Psychology, Ecology and Environment.

Yoga promoted peace, tolerance and humanity and this was the message that he wanted to spread through the exercise. His stay in Pakistan was a wonderful experience for him and he wanted to spread the message of love, tolerance and humanity through yoga, he said.

He said the disciplines of asceticism and meditation led to spiritual experience and profound understanding of the nature of existence.

“The word ‘yoga’ is derived from the Sanskirt root Yuj, which means to control, yoke or unite. During yoga, a high level of energy is released and circulated to the brain. This energy helps remove mental dissipation and steadies the mind so that even after a few minutes of the practice, the mind works effortlessly faster and better,” said Dr Mishra.

He said parents could play a key role in the development of their children’s personalities.

He said they should never say no to their children because denying them anything would spoil their confidence.

“Parents should control their anger in front of children and this is where yoga would come in handy. However, keeping the level of stress down could be done by ones own effort,” he said.

“If someone is angry, no yoga expert can help him. The best technique is to drink a glass of water and try to smile,” the Daily Times quoted him as saying.
