Hinduja Hospital Felicitates Its Organ Donors
150 organ recipients had gathered at the Hinduja Hospital to celebrate their second lease of life and felicitate their donors. This program aimed at encouraging more people to opt for organ donation.
Consultant nephrologist at Hinduja hospital, Dr. Allan Almeida said, "It makes me happy to see more donors come forward. With this program, we wish to highlight the need for donors and inform people that life can function properly with only one kidney."

One of the major problems with organ donation is lack of awareness among the common people about the procedure. Patients who cannot find a matching kidney donor within their own family have to wait for as long as two years to receive one. Another problem with cadaver donations is lack of awareness in brain death cases. Generally public hospitals get such cases and since they are not identified in time it is a major hindrance in organ transplantation. In order to avoid such problems, there has to be better coordination between hospitals and more awareness among the common people.
