Presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) on Thursday will begin to air a 30-second television advertisement statewide in Iowa and New Hampshire that portrays her as the candidate with the greatest ability to expand health insurance to all U.S. residents, the AP/Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The ad, titled 'Stand by Us,' begins with pictures of children as an announcer says, 'Hillary stood up for universal health care when almost no one else would and kept standing until six million kids had coverage.'
The ad does not specifically mention SCHIP or the presidential veto of a compromise bill that would reauthorize and expand the program. In addition, the ad features pictures of Clinton in a protective mask at the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, World Trade Center collapse as the announcer says, 'She stood by ground zero workers who sacrificed their health after so many sacrificed their lives and kept standing until this administration took action.'The announcer concludes, 'So now that almost every candidate is standing up for health care for all, which one do you think will never back down?'.
