Even Minister’s Mother Not Spared by ‘fake Drug’

by VR Sreeraman on Aug 5 2007 12:14 PM

Even being the health minister's mother apparently cannot ensure proper treatment in Jharkhand.

Jharkhand Health Minister Bhanu Pratap Shahi's father Hemendra Pratap has alleged that his wife's condition deteriorated Thursday after she was administered fake saline at a hospital here.

The mother of the health minister, who is suffering from diarrhoea, was admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) here, Wednesday night.

"My wife's condition worsened after she was given fake saline. She started vomiting and had convulsions soon after," Pratap charged.

"I will get the saline tested. The medicines supplied to the hospital are fake, but the RIMS administration flinches from taking any action against the suppliers," he said.

The doctors immediately swung into action and revived her condition after administering antidotes.

"You can imagine the condition of other patients when the health minister's mother is given fake medicine. The hospital is involved in the racket," Pratap added.

After the father of the health minister made a hue and cry over the issue, the RIMA administration agreed to send the sample for test to Bangalore.

"The condition of the health minister's mother worsened due to reaction of the medicine. We gave other medicines and revived her," said R. K. Jha, a doctor at RIMA.
