Eminem Confesses Of Guzzling Cough Syrup During Drug Addiction

Eminem has confessed that he used to guzzle cough syrup when he was at the peak of his drug addiction.

The rap superstar has been fighting his drug demons since the release of his last album, Encore, in 2004.

The singer, who has been sober for a year, revealed that he got addicted to popping prescription pills, and overdosed on the heroin substitute methadone.

"My doctor told me those mysterious new pills were methadone," the Sun quoted him as saying.

"Had I known it was methadone, I probably wouldn't have taken it. But, as bad as I was back then, I can't even say 100 per cent for sure.

"My doctor told me the amount of methadone I'd taken was equivalent to shooting up four bags of heroin. Even when they told me I had almost died, it didn't click," he added.

The Real Slim Shady, whose comeback album Relapse hits the store this month, further said that he turned his house upside down in search of drugs or medicines with powerful narcotics, such as cough syrup NyQuil.

The 36-year-old said: "I'm ransacking my house, finally find something in the basement, in a little napkin, 71/2 Vicodin (pain killers) - the big, extra-strength ones - and a few Valium."
