One of the commonly believed dietary facts about diabetes is that eating eggs may increase the risk of developing the condition. However a new study has suggested otherwise.
The study on 4,000 older men and women failed to find any connection between egg consumption and diabetes risk. Eggs are supposed to contain dietary cholesterol and hence may not be advisable for people with high cholesterol; however they do contain a number of beneficial nutrients including proteins.
The study on 3,898 Americans participating in the Cardiovascular Health Study did not find any link between eating eggs and diabetes. Overall 313 people developed type 2 diabetes over a follow-up period of 11 years.
But egg consumption did not play any part as most of these people were overweight and had other risk factors.
