Doctors of Indian Origin to be Assisted by Professional Body in England

by Rajshri on Mar 2 2010 10:13 PM

Doctors of Indian origin will have help from a new body called Medical Defence Shield (MDS), which was launched by the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) on Monday.

The body said MDS would help Indian doctors on the NHS receive comprehensive support as well as provide representation on complaints of bullying, harassment and discrimination.

“The Chief Medical Officer of England, in his recent Annual Report, acknowledged that the migrant doctors working in the NHS face discrimination and bullying. The MDS has been devised to fill a huge gap in professional services available to ethnic minority doctors,” the BAPIO said in a statement.

According to latest figures, there are 40,000 doctors of Indian origin in the NHS
