Doctors’ Strike Enters Third Day in Kolkata
The doctors’ strike a Kolkata government hospital took an ugly turn on Monday after the police confirmed that five doctors have been arrested for allegedly assaulting the relatives of patients after denying them admission.
The strike entered its third day after doctors at the state-run SSKM hospital refused to work following an alleged assault by the relatives of a patient on a doctor, claiming that the patient had died due to negligence. The strike has also spread to the National Medical College and Hospital with no sign of settlement in sight.

Police officials have confirmed that five junior doctors at SSKM hospital have been arrested after they were alleged to have denied admission to patients and beat up their relatives. The arrest comes after the West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee warned of strict action against doctors who had gone on strike.

“If this continues, the government will have to take action. The question of safety and security is definitely important and everybody has the right of safety and security, but what is going on in the name of this is not correct”, he said.
