'Changing Diabetes Bus', a worldwide initiative by health care major Novo Nordisk to create awareness about diabetes arrived in Chennai.

The bus, which started its tour in September 2006, has already traversed five continents, covering 20 countries on its mission to reach out to more and more people and impart knowledge on diabetes.

The bus has videos and pamphlets giving information on diabetes and adopts a different way of information dissemination on the disease.

"'Changing Diabetes Bus' is basically an awareness platform to create awareness in very simple terms, talking to people about what diabetes is? What they should do? How they can get themselves tested? There are testing places where they can test their blood sugar, they can find out what their condition is and plus learn what are basic issues about Diabetes," said Melvin Oscar D'souza, Managing Director, Nova Nordisk India Limited.

According to a warning issued by WHO in 2006, diabetes is set to spread all over India in the next 20 years.

The report further offered suggestions on how to fight the deadly disease by modifying diet and bringing changes in the lifestyle.

From Chennai, the bus will leave for Seoul and from there to the United States.
