Children’s Day on November 14 will see the Delhi government implement one of its most ambitious health schemes with more than 14 lakh school children expected to receive free health check-ups and medical treatment. The Chacha Nehru Sehat Yojana was announced by chief minister Sheila Dikshit when she presented the budget for 2011-12 back in March. Over Rs 100 crore has been set aside to implement the scheme which will provide health check-ups to all children under 14 years of age.
The government revealed that the scheme will be first implemented in 100 schools before expanding to 854 government-run schools. Comprehensive health profiles of all students will be compiled and stored in electronic format.
Announcing the scheme, Ms Dikshit said, “We want to make this ambitious scheme a grand success which will go a long way in making all school children healthy which will result in making of a healthy society and healthy nation.”
